Champion Of Champions

What is the EIBC Champion of Champions Final?

The Champion of Champions Competition enables EIBF-supported universities that ran an enterprise competition in the previous 12 months to enter teams into the final for a chance to win prizes.

Entrants are invited to present an innovative idea that solves a problem in society. This can be the idea entered into the university competition, or a new idea.

As with the university level competitions, teams entering the final must comprise engineers or be multi-disciplinary teams that include engineers. Individual entrants must be engineering students/engineers (computer sciences and biomedical engineers are included).

This year’s Champion of Champions Competition will take place on 7 and 8 November 2024 at the Royal Academy of Engineering.

HOW TO ENTER

This year’s Champion of Champions competition is open to all teams and individuals who participated in their EIBF-funded university business innovation competition, not just the individual winners.

Entry submission requirements:

VIDEO

Video explaining the innovation – maximum length is 4 minutes.

Business Model Canvas (BMC)

BMC setting out the business model. The BMC should be presented landscape format for output as an A2 document (examples here and here).

POSTER

A2 poster promoting the innovation.

The three items that make up the entry (video, poster, Business Model Canvas) must be labelled as follows:

Computer file names for all items: University name, business idea/name

Labelling Poster and BMC: Include your university name, business idea/name, team leader’s name and email on these items.

The videos, Business Model Canvas and posters will be judged and ten finalists will be shortlisted.

Year of study: Please make sure you tell us if you were an undergraduate or postgraduate when competing in your university competition.

Entry submissions: To enter the awards, you’ll need a dedicated submission link – please email us at eibcompetition@eibc.org.uk for your bespoke entry upload link. Once the entry has been submitted via the website you will see a purple tick indicating that your submission has been received. If there are any problems, please contact us.

While not mandatory, entrants are welcome to use prototypes or images of their innovation in their submission and at the grand final if shortlisted.

ENTRIES NOW CLOSED!

The deadline for the Champion of Champions Competition 2024 has now passed.  Judging is now taking place, and finalists will be announced shortly. If you have any questions, please contact eibcompetition@eibc.org.uk

Judging criteria

The judging criteria for selecting the finalists and the Champion of Champion winners are:

  • Originality of the idea
  • How the idea addresses a need in society
  • Clearly defined target audiences and the benefits of the innovation
  • Viability of the idea and how well this is communicated
  • How effectively the business idea is presented in the entry materials and then at the Awards Ceremony if short-listed

You are not required to prepare a financial statement/budget.

Judging finalists

The judges will select ten entrants to go forward to the grand final at the Royal Academy of Engineering on 7 and 8 November 2024.

People’s vote

The ten finalists’ videos will be displayed on this website in early September 2024.

The public can vote for their favourite innovation; each person may cast one vote. The prize will be awarded in two stages: a pre-show prize of £500 for the finalist who gains the most votes for their innovation on this website. A further £500 will be awarded to the finalist who gains the most votes for their innovation during the live pitching event. Competitors, get your supporters, far and wide, to vote for you!  Voting will open around four weeks before the grand final (date to be confirmed) and close at midnight on 7 November 2024.

Grand Final

Finalists will take part in a Coaching and Publicity Day before the Grand Final. These will be held at the Royal Academy of Engineering in London on 7 and 8 November 2024.

Each team will have six minutes to present their innovation and answer the judges’ questions (three minutes to present, two minutes for Q&As).  After the presentations, the judges will confer and announce the winners at the end of the event. Full details on how the event will be shared directly with the finalists prior to the grand final.

Judging at the Grand Final

The Judging Panel will be announced in September 2024.

You can watch the 2023 finalists pitch to become a Champion of Champions on YouTube.
